Don't miss the UCI Dance Film Festival, March 12 to 14, 2009 at
University of California, Irvine. Each evening features a different program of dance films.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, the UCI Dance Film Festival
presents three days of dance films by leading choreographers
and directors from around the world. The program offers
international works drawing on ballet, modern, jazz and
world dance, including explorations of choreography for the
camera, films using animation and digital techniques, and
dance documentaries.
Directed and curated by UCI dance/media professor John Crawford,
this annual festival features a diverse
selection of films that merge choreographic forms with
cinematic techniques, filling the screen with the emotional
presence and kinetic power of dance. Choreography made
specifically for the camera embraces the potential of film
and video technology to transcend the ephemeral nature of
dance performance, creating new perspectives of bodies in
motion.
All programs are in Winifred Smith Hall, centrally located at UC
Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts [map]. Tickets are available from the UCI Arts Box
Office. Order tickets by phone at (949) 824-2787 or go to UCI
Arts Box Office. Each evening's program is about our hour in length.
The Student Dance Film Showcase, originally scheduled for March 14 at 2:30 pm, has been cancelled. This year's best student films will be shown in the main program at 6:30 pm each evening.
